  • Students: Transition to Microsoft 365 Online Apps (Thursday, July 9, 2026)

Microsoft has discontinued the license that previously allowed student access to desktop (installed) versions of Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Because of this change, students will no longer be able to install or use the desktop M365 applications with your OU student account.

You will continue to have access to Microsoft 365 Online Apps, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other apps that run in a web browser. These online versions allow you to create, edit, save, and share documents just like the desktop apps. Your existing files remain stored securely in OneDrive.

You can access Microsoft 365 Online Apps here:

    • Microsoft 365 portal: https://www.office.com
    • Word Online: https://www.office.com/launch/word
    • Excel Online: https://www.office.com/launch/excel
    • PowerPoint Online: https://www.office.com/launch/powerpoint

All you need is an up to date web browser and your OU student account. We recommend you bookmark the M365 Portal in your preferred browser.
