  • New recommended browser for Blackboard (Tuesday, December 20, 2011)
Blackboard underwent a minor upgrade on 12/19/2011. With this upgrade comes an expanded list of certified and compatible browsers for use with Blackboard.  Please see the list here: http://kb.blackboard.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=72810639

Please note, however, that the Office of Academic Technology recommends that all Blackboard users upgrade to Firefox final release and maintain their browsers at the final release at all times.  Firefox is moving to a “rapid release cycle” which means that we will no longer be providing version numbers for the recommended instance of Firefox but will instead refer to the “final release” as the version our users should be using.

Information about the new Firefox Rapid Release process:
Q: Why switch to a rapid release cycle for Firefox?
A: Rapid releases let Firefox developers deliver new features, performance enhancements, security updates and stability improvements to users faster.
Q: How does the rapid release cycle work? What is the rapid release timing?
A: There are now Firefox channels: nightly, aurora, beta and final release. Each stage of the development process lasts for six weeks.
Nightly - Test builds including unpolished features not tested by Mozilla Quality Assurance
Aurora - Test the latest features and innovations with an increase in polish from the raw, cutting edge features in nightly builds
Beta - Broadly test the stability of new features and improvements in the next version of Firefox
Final Release - Delivers the polished and stable features in Firefox to hundreds of millions of users
The most current version is always available at: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
